Elementor Kits

Role: UX Writer

Tools: Figma, InVision, Sketch, Elementor
Skills: UX Writing, Content Strategy, Design Strategy
Team size: 7
Outcome: Elementor Kits are design assets for Elementor users to use as templates for their website creation.
*This project (including its content and all visual assets) was completed for and owned by Elementor Ltd.

Task

A web design team leader approached me as UX Writer with the task of creating the microcopy for the web design team's Elementor Kits (templates). Kits are available to Elementor users to download for their websites and customize to their liking. Each kit's text needs to suit the design of the template, and portray the content's voice and tone as described by the designer.

Process

Brainstorming with the Web Designers

The web designers and I would sit at the beginning of each project and discuss the design thinking and technical elements of the kit. Once I knew the way each template was built inside Elementor and what the designer's goals were in designing the kit, I was equipped to choose the microcopy that would achieve what they were looking to make happen.

👩‍🏫 Lessons Learned

There were a few key takeaways that rolled out as the UX writing process came to a close:
  • Always keep localization in mind. Elementor Kits available to Elementor users all around the globe. The platform operates in English, but many non-native speakers use it everyday. The English can't be too complicated, but it also needs to maintain a brand voice of professionalism and language proficiency. This is a tough balance!
  • Scrutinize the microcopy of your competitors. See what type of conversation they're having with the audience you're competing for, and strive to devise your own language that's equally if not more personable and appealing.
